Lloyd Eco Fair Brings Together Residents and Businesses in the Lloyd District

If you walked by Lloyd Center on April 10th and 11th, you may have noticed a crowd of people sporting IMG_1889bright green reusable shopping bags, carrying new reusable coffee mugs and exchanging high fives with Slim, Pacific Power’s safety mascot. This was our first annual Lloyd Eco Fair and it was a great success. We hosted 24 diverse vendor booths at Lloyd Center. The booths ranged from alternative transportation to community building, energy efficiency, local food, green products, and waste management.

Lloyd District employees, residents and mall visitors took a break from working and shopping to test ride GenZe’s e-bikes, try out Cotton Cloud’s organic and earth friendly bedding, and play an eco-characteristic memory game with Hassalo on Eighth. Saturday was full of entertaining performances from Eartha the Clown, seed planting activities, and musical sing-a-longs from KCPuppetree’s trash can band.

Lloyd EcoDistrict hosted a Coffee Cup Eco-Challenge, where we encouraged people to give us their disposable coffee cups in exchange for a reusable mug. We collected 132 disposable cups and gave out 178 reusable ones. If everyone uses their new cup for one year, we’ll have helped save over 215,000 gallons of water, 1,023,500 lbs. of trash from going to the landfill and 10,680 lbs. of CO2 emissions!

Over 400 people attended the Lloyd Eco Fair. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support we received from Lloyd District sponsors and partners, including Lloyd Center, Pacific Power, Metro, DoubleTree and EcoLCT. The diversity of vendors and attendees at the event reinforced our enthusiasm for uniting the Lloyd District under the common goal of achieving district-wide sustainability. The Lloyd District has many valuable resources, and this was a great way to showcase them in a single space. We hope to see you next year!
