The 2nd Annual Eco Fair was a great success!
Approximately 250 attendees and 60 kids attended over the weekend. The range of vendors provided an educational variety to the concept of sustainability including energy efficiency, alternative transportation, materials management, environmental education and ecology. Friday saw many district employees stopping through on their lunch break to get a free coffee cup. Saturday was a family affair with a diverse group of activities and entertainment. Some of the fun included test-riding an E-Bike with GenZe, grabbing chai tea and lounging under the beautiful T-horse from City Repair, getting a massage from East West College and playing the Lorax recycling game, one of several great kids activities which the mall organized.
The chalk mandala in the plaza was a successful at sparking community interest. The mandala got the attention of everyone coming in and out of the mall and provided some great conversations about the intersection repair project which will be happening next year. It was an excellent opener to future community development work!
This year for the Coffee Cup Challenge, we collected and handed out enough reusable cups to save 12,000 disposables from the landfill. This is equivalent to 12,000 pounds of paper, 1500 pounds of wood and 2,400 gallons of water!
