We want to welcome some new faces around the Lloyd EcoDistrict offices. During the course of the 2019 – 2020 school year, we will have two interns joining us from Portland State University’s Student Leaders for Service program. Caitlyn (left) and Josh (right) will be serving as the communications intern and outreach intern respectively. We asked them to say a few words about themselves and why they chose to spend their service hours with Lloyd EcoDistrict.

Caitlyn:

As the Communications Intern for Lloyd EcoDistrict, Caitlyn will be working on the group’s social media presence, newsletter, and ensuring community stakeholders are aware of ways to get involved. How the Lloyd EcoDistrict engages the community with such a large cause through measurable goals is what made the organization appeal to her. Projects such as waste reduction and increasing pollinator plant presence are of particular interest to her.

Caitlyn is in her second year at Portland State, working towards her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science with a minor in business. At PSU she is involved in Student Leaders for Service, which is how she got connected with the organization. In her spare time, she enjoys making pottery, walking around Portland, and drinking lots of coffee.

Josh:

In his role as Outreach Intern for Lloyd EcoDistrict, Josh hopes to bring his passion, knowledge, and perspective of sustainability and community. Josh is an Honors Student at Portland State University. He in his third year of studying to receive his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus in Community Psychology and a minor in Sustainable Urban Development. He is active in the Student Sustainability Center, participating in both the Gardening and Beekeeping Taskforce, where he helps to look after the Portland State University Gardens and Apiary. He is also a part of the Student Leaders for Service where he serves as an ambassador between Portland State University and Lloyd EcoDistrict. Excited to apply his knowledge and experience gained from involvement at PSU, he is also eager to learn and grow at Lloyd EcoDistrict.

Outside of being a busy, sleep-deprived, college student, some of Josh’s passions are nature and art. His two favorite outlets for these are rock climbing and painting. On a cloudy day, he can usually be found wherever there’s a patch of sun. On a sunny day, however, he’ll be in the shade.
