Peace Memorial Park Updates

We have been out in the community gathering insight and feedback for the redesign of Peace Memorial Park. Recently we beared the rain and hosted 2 outreach efforts at the park site, speaking with bike commuters and pedestrians about what they would like to see the park look like. We also hosted an open house event with PLACE Studios, Veterans For Peace to provide context to the project and answer questions around the design. Our project partners Xerces Society, PBOT, and East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District also were there tabling. So far we have received feedback from over 100 people in the community and we are still seeking more input.

Needless to say, Lloyd EcoDistrict wants your feedback on the design choices!

If you haven’t been to any of the in-person outreach sites we still want to hear from you. We have an online open house where anyone is able to share their thoughts and help inform the final design. Click here to have a look and tell us what you think!

We will incorporate public feedback into the final design, and present it in November. Stay tuned for updates by subscribing here.

This will be a big effort and will require community support. If you would like to contribute to the park, please click the link below to donate.

New Faces at Lloyd EcoDistrict

We want to welcome some new faces around the Lloyd EcoDistrict offices. During the course of the 2019 – 2020 school year, we will have two interns joining us from Portland State University’s Student Leaders for Service program. Caitlyn (left) and Josh (right) will be serving as the communications intern and communications intern respectively. We asked them to say a few words about themselves and why they chose to spend their service hours with Lloyd EcoDistrict.

Peace Memorial Park Partner Highlight

East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District

You may have noticed that we have been sharing information for free workshops around town that provide informational experiences around pollinators, native plants, beneficial insects, and urban weeds. These amazing free workshops are provided by the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District (EMSWCD)! The EMSWCD is a local government serving Northwest Oregon’s Multnomah County east of the Willamette River. They are led by an elected board of five directors and several associate directors. All of their work is geared toward keeping water clean, conserving water and keeping soil healthy.

EMSWCD provides amazing resources to urban and rural residents, as well as businesses. They offer a native plant sale to enhance local habitat and help keep our land and water healthier, and provide tons of great information on ways that you can create a more resilient landscape in your community. On top of all that, they provide grants to help fund community-led projects that align with their mission and values. One thing we recommend, if you can, is checking out their yard tour or open house events. It’s definitely worth stopping by!

Partner Updates

Styrofoam Recycling in Lloyd
Do you throw away a lot of block Styrofoam? Metro has partnered with B-Line bicycle-powered delivery to pick up Styrofoam from the Convention Center and Metro Regional Center for recycling at the Agylix facility in Tigard. We’re exploring the possibility of expanding this to other businesses in Lloyd. If you’re interested, please contact Diana Foss at diana@ecolloyd.org
