Recharge the Rest Area: Help Right 2 Dream Too Keep Portland’s Houseless Community Safe

Help Right 2 Dream Too keep Portland’s houseless community safe amid the current public health crisis.

Right 2 Dream Too (R2DToo) is a place where Portlanders without housing can sleep safely for up to 12 hours. Like many social service providers, R2DToo is perpetually in need of funding to cover operating expenses and the COVID-19 pandemic has created even greater new needs and challenges.

The Lloyd neighborhood has come together and stepped up to help. Spearheaded by Lloyd EcoDistrict, and joined by Lloyd Enhanced Services District, and the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, we raised $9,000 in just a few short weeks to support R2DToo. Commissioner Amanda Fritz’s Office, impressed by this effort, contributed matching funds bringing the total funds raised to $18,000 in contributions and pledges.

Help us keep the momentum going! We challenge you to match the $18,000 we have collectively raised so far! An additional $18,000 will fund R2DToo’s operating expenses for the full year and keep them afloat while they respond to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who is Right 2 Dream Too?
R2DToo is a democratically run rest area, a place where people without housing can sleep. The Dreamers, members of R2DToo, self-manage the rest area, providing 24-hour security, laundering sleeping bags, distributing food and clothing, and meeting weekly to make collective operational decisions and problem solve. The members live in tiny houses, also known as sleeping pods, six of which were previously built and financed by the Lloyd community.

R2DToo hosts an average of 100 people in 24 hours, who sleep in three large, communal sleeping tents day or night. The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges for their already thinly stretched budget. With social distancing in place, fewer people now can be served, though the need is even greater with the economic downturn.

Hitting our goal will require hundreds of small donations!
