Poor air quality is not a new issue for Portland, with the 2020 wildfires causing Portland air to become “very unhealthy” for all. Since then, we’ve had a number of days with poor air quality, often caused by wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. Because these events are still relatively infrequent, but increasing in frequency, it is common to not feel prepared for such poor air quality days. 

Join Lloyd EcoDistrict on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30 PM at the Lloyd Center for a free workshop to learn more about how to safely prepare your home in the event of a serious wildfire smoke event this summer. 

We will discuss how to check and understand the air quality in Lloyd or your neighborhood, steps you can take to prepare well in advance of a wildfire smoke event, and what to do if a smoke event arrives unexpectedly. We will demonstrate how to create a safe, clean room during a smoke event by making an inexpensive DIY air filter. Attendees will leave with a HEPA air filter that they are able to use in their own DIY air filter. 

Participants will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on services or projects that Lloyd EcoDistrict and other partners are thinking of developing to respond to climate change emergencies, such as smoke or extreme heat/cold events.
