Community Fun at Duckworth Dock: Highlights from our Duckworth Summer Wednesdays
This month we kicked off the start of summer with our Duckworth Summer Wednesday series! For the last three weeks, Duckworth Dock has turned into summer fun central as 400 members of the community have come together weekly to escape the heat, enjoy the live music courtesy of DJ PopCart, and take a dip into the Willamette River with lifeguards on duty. Starting last year, Duckworth Summer Wednesdays are collaborative events hosted by Lloyd EcoDistrict, Human Access Project, and BikeLoud.
We are happy to report that we have capitalized on the success of last year and have seen record-breaking attendance as over 500 people filled the dock in a single Wednesday. In addition, this summer we are providing more fun activities, events, and entertainment. Week one featured a special fire boat display from the Portland Fire Department! This thrilling water show added an extra splash of excitement to our festivities. At week two we had a performance by the Daughters of Triton synchronized swim group, and last week we brought in a water trampoline! What will we have in store next? Join us and find out!
Accessible only by bike or foot, these Duckworth Summer Wednesdays encourage Portlanders to explore and enjoy our beautiful city’s waterfront sustainably. In fact, in addition to Lloyd residents, we’ve talked to several of the attendees who biked over five miles to cool off in the refreshing waters of the Willamette River.
