PARK(ing) Day: Envisioning an E-Mobility & Resiliency Hub at Holladay Park
Every September, we celebrate PARK(ing) Day! It is a day when people worldwide temporarily repurpose street parking spaces and convert them into tiny parks and places for art, play, and activism. This movement, creatively repurposing parking spots into dynamic public spaces for nearly 20 years, found a keen participant in Lloyd—a neighborhood often critiqued for its expansive concrete footprint and reputation as a heat island. For one day only, we’re converting street parking on NE 11th Ave and NE Holladay into an exciting activation space full of outdoor dining, park activities, and free treats.
What’s happening?
Pop-Up Kiosks & Hub space: Explore a pop-up shop, outdoor dining, and community space next to the Lloyd Center MAX line, showcasing how public space can be creatively repurposed and placemaking enhanced.
Free Burritos & Jamaica Juice: Grab a delicious free burrito and Jamaica juice from Xocalo PDX while supplies last!
Street Roots Vendors: Enjoy complimentary refreshments and pick up a paper from Street Roots vendors, who will share their stories.
Charge Your Devices with Solar: Try out one of our newest additions to the lending library, a battery-powered generator that uses solar!
Envision the Future: We’ll model a mini version of the future E-Mobility & Resilience Hub next to the scooter and bike station! Get a sneak peek of what a full-scale project could look like when it is adjacent to public spaces that need a little extra love from the community.
