Clearing the Water: Defeating the Harmful Algae Bloom in Ross Island Lagoon

Join Dr. Desirée Tullos on Thursday, June 25, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Alberta Abbey for a presentation on a proposed solution to the recurring harmful algae blooms in Ross Island Lagoon.

Drawing on nearly a decade of research, Dr. Tullos and the Oregon State University team will share their 30% design for the lagoon, representing the first phase of an engineering plan to evaluate feasibility, costs, permitting requirements, and expected outcomes. The proposal is the first science based restoration strategy developed specifically to address recurring harmful algae blooms in Ross Island Lagoon and their impacts on the Lower Willamette River.

This free public event offers an opportunity to learn about the proposal, discuss its potential benefits and impacts, and explore next steps toward a healthier and more resilient river system. Due to anticipated interest, attendees are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance.
