Over 100 Container Gardens Growing: A Recap of Our Garden Giveaway

At the end of May, we hosted our spring giveaway at the Lloyd EcoDistrict office. Over three planting and pickup dates, we welcomed more than 60 families to our space to plant their very own container gardens to take home. It is always great to see our neighborhood come together around urban gardening!

This year, we were also able to expand our reach by partnering with other local organizations. We delivered containers, soil, and plants for 25 gardens to our neighbors at Right 2 Dream Too. Additionally, we supplied another 25 containers to Afro Village, located in the Lloyd Center, which they distributed to families on Juneteenth.

Our plant selection this year featured a mix of fresh produce and herbs, including cherry tomatoes, mint, rosemary, thyme, sage, lettuces, kale, chard, and hot peppers.

In an urban area like Lloyd, not everyone has access to yards or green space, especially renters. This project helps break down barriers by making growing fresh food possible for more community members. With each container garden, we are growing food, and we are growing connection, sustainability, and resilience.
