Building Community: The Courtyard Social at The Louisa Flowers
On Thursday, September 12, Lloyd EcoDistrict, in partnership with Home Forward, hosted the Courtyard Social at The Louisa Flowers, a vibrant community gathering that brought together nearly 100 residents. This event was designed to foster connections, share valuable resources, and celebrate the sense of community within The Louisa Flowers, a 240-unit affordable multifamily housing complex in the heart of Lloyd.
A Day of Fun and Resources
Families and individuals filled the courtyard to enjoy games like cornhole and giant Jenga while engaging in conversations about important resources. Lloyd EcoDistrict provided giveaways and information focused on emergency preparedness and apartment weatherization. Residents received first aid kits, water storage containers, cooling towels, door sweeps, refrigerator temperature cards, LED light bulbs, window shrink wrap kits, and power strips. These items are aimed at helping families prepare for emergencies and small injuries and save money and stay comfortable as the colder months approach. Our friends at Go Lloyd also tabled at the event, offering transportation giveaways and sharing information on how residents can better navigate the city.
Connecting with Portland Parks & Recreation
One of the event’s key highlights was the presence of the Portland Parks & Recreation outreach team. They shared information about the city’s wide range of recreational activities and helped sign up nearly 40 residents for the Access Discount Program. This incredible resource provides a 90% discount on admissions to recreation centers, pools, and classes, along with camps and other activities throughout the year. It was wonderful to see community members excited about the chance to access affordable fitness, education, and wellness opportunities. A Festive Atmosphere
The event wasn’t just about resources—there was plenty of fun to be had! Residents enjoyed free pizza, drinks, and desserts, and even made their own custom buttons, all while listening to lively music. It was a joyful gathering, with neighbors getting to know each other and connecting in ways that help strengthen the sense of community at The Louisa Flowers.
The Courtyard Social truly highlighted the importance of bringing people together and empowering them with knowledge and resources. We’re thrilled with the turnout and can’t wait to continue hosting events that uplift and support our neighbors in Lloyd.
