Earth Day Oregon Recap

BPA Earth Month Volunteering

By Joshua Baker

We hope that this year’s Earth Day (and week) was as amazing as ours was! We have to give a huge shout out to our generous local business partners who donated funds to help us continue our important work. Thank you to our partners: Cafe Yumm, Genentech, Pacific Power, and Beneficial Bank for their support.

Lloyd EcoDistrict also decided to make this Earth Week memorable with some extra time working on cleanups and graffiti removal! Pacific Power and Genentech employees came out during Earth Week to help us cleanup Peace Memorial Park, Holladay Park, and areas around the Eastbank Esplanade, the Moda Center, Oregon Convention Center, Lloyd Center, and NE Lloyd and more. Thank you to the Lloyd Center and Oregon Convention Center for helping to dispose of the trash, and to SOLVE for providing some of our supplies.

During Earth Week alone, we were able to collect an estimated 680 pounds of trash with the help of our 50 volunteers. For over two days throughout Earth Week, our volunteers collectively contributed 92 hours of their time to removing graffiti and picking up garbage. After spending these long hours cleaning up areas of the Lloyd, we were so excited to stop by Cafe Yumm on Earth Day! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported us with your purchase.

We hope you all enjoyed your Earth Day and week, and we thank you for all your support!
