Paws and Play: A Tail-Wagging Good Time at the EcoDistrict Play Street Event!

In celebration of International Dog Day, we’re taking a look back at the Lloyd EcoDistrict’s Play Street event, where our furry friends stole the show at the Pet Costume Contest on August 22, 2024! On that day, a block of the EcoDistrict along the Northeast Broadway Business Association (NEBBA) corridor was transformed into a Play Street, brimming with energy and excitement. Dogs of all shapes and sizes paraded down the “green carpet,” decked out in their finest costumes, with fans and judges cheering them on. Our talented photographer, Elle Hygge, captured every moment, and we’re excited to share these delightful images with you!

And the Winners Are…

Best in Show: Ankha, a 6-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, dazzled us with her beauty, even if she’s a bit of a “Monet”—gorgeous from afar, but a hilarious mess up close!
Cutest Potato: Lalo Salamanca, a retired import businessman perfecting the art of “Lumpitading,” often mistaken for a potato.
Best Costume Duo: Eritu, the dragon and his owner, the wizard, who soared through the skies as a magical duo.
Fanciest Costume: Dora, who arrived as a stylish, out-of-this-world alien, ready to seize all the treats.
Best Influencer: Zortee, the Broadway Bar & Grill mascot and aspiring influencer. Give them a follow on TikTok and Instagram @Zorteethehusky and on Facebook @Zortee.
Ladies Man: Goro, the urban cowboy of your dreams, enjoys long walks and curling up with a book by his favorite author, “Dog”stoyevsky.
Best Starfish: Luna, dressed as Patrick from SpongeBob, living her best life under the sea.
The Sweetish Little Piggy: Che Che AKA Ginger, a little piggy with a keen nose for tasty snacks, finding them in every nook and cranny.
Best Impersonation: The Notorious RBG aka Ruthie aka The Honorable Madam Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, graced us with her presence.

Most Natural Character: Chewie, a 13-year-old Shih Tzu mix whose resemblance to Chewbacca is uncanny. His favorite snack? Pork chops, of course!

The event wasn’t just about the contest—there was plenty of fun for everyone! Cupcakes and puppuccinos were served, a button-making station buzzed with creativity, and games like giant Jenga, Connect Four, and cornhole kept everyone entertained. We were also joined by Secondhand Pet Supply, a wonderful nonprofit store located in Lloyd Center Mall, dedicated to helping pet owners save money while reducing their pet’s carbon paw-print by offering gently used pet products.

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the gray, threatening rain clouds to join us for this paws-itively fantastic event!

1. PARK(ing) Day Micro Play Street: Envisioning an E-Mobility & Resiliency Hub at Holladay Park
